Stephen Smiley, MD
Dr. Stephen Smiley has a unique background that has taken him around the world and back.
Dr. Smiley went to Pasco High School and completed his undergraduate education at the University of Washington. After university, he pursued humanitarian efforts overseas, living in Sudan and Pakistan. This experience, along with his two brothers’ military service, was instrumental in beginning a career in national defense, where he worked for five years in Washington, D.C.
Although Dr. Smiley was employed elsewhere, he knew his calling was in the medical field. He took a step of faith and applied to medical school, getting accepted to Duke University School of Medicine.
Dr. Smiley returned to the Tri-Cities, where he completed his family medicine residency at Kadlec Regional Medical Center and met his beautiful wife Berta -- also a Pasco native. Following residency, he took his first job as a family physician at Prairie Family Medicine in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. While thankful for his experience and growth as a physician in Coeur d'Alene, he and his wife are excited to return and settle with their family, friends, and community in the Tri-Cities.
Dr. Smiley believes that direct primary care is an innovative solution to some of the current challenges facing primary care. Under this healthcare model, a smaller patient panel improves access for patients and creates a more personal interaction.
In his spare time, Dr. Smiley enjoys competing in triathlons and traveling with his wife. You can often see him biking throughout the Tri-Cities or running the local foothills. Beyond providing comprehensive care for all ages, Dr. Smiley is passionate about natural approaches to illness, focusing on healthy and active lifestyles.
